A bench has been unveiled in Brandon as a birthday present to a popular town personality.

John Gentry spends hours every day outside his home on Thetford Road waving to traffic as it passes his property.

Following an appreciation post on the town’s Facebook group, Brandon Forum, it was decided that a bench would be purchased to show gratitude for the joy John brings to so many of the town’s residents.

Organised by Brandon in Bloom, and funded entirely through public donations, the bench was installed at The Wedge on Thetford Road where John can often be seen.

The installation and unveiling of the bench took place today, just three days after John celebrated his 88th birthday on Sunday 27th September.

Just a stone’s throw from John’s home, The Wedge is one of a number of areas in the town that have been adopted by, and are entirely maintained by, Brandon in Bloom volunteers.
