Man jailed after shooting another man in the leg

Jason Anderson was sentenced to four years and five months in jail

A man from Brandon has been jailed after shooting another man in the leg last year.

Jason Anderson, aged 37 and of Riverside Way, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court today, Friday 8th September, where he was sentenced to four years and five months in jail.

He had previously denied all charges, including attempted murder. However, on the second day of trial, Anderson pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and unlawful wounding.

This was accepted by all parties and, on 15th June 2023, the judge directed the jury to find Anderson guilty of both offences.

This follow an incident that occurred at an address in Brandon High Street on 12th December 2022.

Anderson and the victim – a man aged in his 40s who is known to him – had been out drinking together, before returning to the victim’s address around 10:30pm. Anderson left soon after.

Approximately 10 minutes later the victim described hearing a bang on his patio glass door and went to investigate, at which point he saw Anderson standing outside holding a shotgun.

The victim jumped out of the way as the gun was discharged through the window.

Police were called the following afternoon, 13th December 2022, with the victim reporting minor leg injuries and Anderson was arrested at this home address that evening.

Following the sentencing, DC Pete Gray of Bury St Edmunds CID said: “Anderson had access to a firearm and showed that he was willing to cause harm to others. This makes him a dangerous individual and made a custodial sentence the inevitable outcome.

“Fortunately, his victim did not suffer serious injury, but the consequences could have been far worse and there was absolutely no justification in Anderson’s actions in discharging a shotgun at a residential address.”
